United States, Minnesota, Winona, Rugged terrain along Arches Valley and Garvin Brook, just downstream from the mouth of Peterson Creek and Farmers Community Park, 2.5 miles southwest of Stockton, 3 miles northeast of Lewiston.

Habitat:
Local atop a steep, 300-foot, west-facing bluff. Frequent in a tiny bluff prairie remnant perched on a level bench ~15-20 feet back from the top of a dry dolomite cliff. Full sun (to shaded in the morning by Quercus ellipsoidalis, Q. macrocarpa, and Rhamnus cathartica). Small patches, in shallow, rocky silt over bedrock. Maroon bract sheaths.

Associates include Carex meadii, C. eburnea, Schizachryrium scoparium, comandra umbellata, Hypoxis hirsuta, Geum triflorum, Amorpha canescens, Juniperus communis.
