Habitat:
Uncommon and local in a rich sedge fen, which forms the broad outer zone of an 80-acre wetland complex. Small groups of stems, mostly in slightly wetter microsites, and often along deer trails. Full sun. Deep, wet, buoyant peat, often with shallow surface water, and carpets of Sphagnum angustifolium.

Additional associates include Typha x glauca, Carex lasiocarpa, C. utriculata, C. rostrata, Juncus canadensis, Agrostis scabra, Aster borealis, Thelypteris palustris, Potentilla palustris.
