Locality: United States, Minnesota, Stearns, Strongly rolling forested moraine south of the Sauk River, one mile south-southeast of downtown Cold Spring, along the north side of Hummingbird Lane.

Habitat: Locally abundant in a small (one-acre) marsh. Co-dominant with Sagittaria latifolia. Robust clumps, aggregated into fairly dense patches, in an emergent zone surrounding a small (1/4-acre), shallow pond. Rooting in a mucky-organic mat that floats ~ a foot above the muck substrate. Clumps often basally submerged in shallow water. Full sun.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Eleocharis obtusa, Scirpus cyperinus, Glyceria grandis, Leersia oryzoides, Lycopus uniflorus, Galium trifidum, Alisma triviale, Sparganium emersum, Bidens cernua, Lemna minor, Spirodela polyrhiza.
