Locality: United States, Minnesota, Winona, Great River Bluffs State Park. Rugged forested terrain along the Mississippi River eight miles north-northwest of La Crescent, 14 miles southeast of Winona.

Verbatim Elevation: 1180 feet
Habitat: Local at the top of an extremely steep 580-foot, northeast-facing bluff. In a broad ecotone between mesic hardwood forest on the northeasterly slope and bluff prairie on the adjacent southwesterly slope. Partial sun. Patchy short canopy of Quercus rubra, Q. macrocarpa, Betula papyrifera, Populus tremuloides, and Juglans nigra. Rocky silt. Several single-stemmed understory trees (6-12 feet tall).
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carya ovata, C. cordiformis, Celtis occidentalis, Cornus racemosa, C. rugosa, Rubus occidentalis, Zanthoxylum americanum, Sanicula gregaria.
