Habitat:
Rare in rich mesic hardwood forest on the broad, level top of a drumlin. Maturing, even-aged stand dominated by Quercus rubra, Q. macrocarpa, Tilia americana, and Acer saccharum. Understory includes Ostrya virginiana, Carpinus caroliniana, and Fraxinus nigra. Moist, dark, rich sandy-loam. One robust clump here, on the margin of a small, moist depression.
