Locality: United States, Minnesota, Mille Lacs, Rum River State Forest. Rolling drumlin plain east of the West Fork Groundhouse River, ten miles northwest of Ogilvie.

Habitat: Occasional in rich mesic hardwood forest on the broad, level top of a drumlin. Maturing, even-aged stand dominated by Tilia americana, Quercus rubra, Q. macrocarpa, and Acer saccharum. Understory includes Ostrya virginiana, Carpinus caroliniana, and Fraxinus nigra. Moist, dark, rich sandy-loam.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex woodii, C. pensylvanica, C. radiata, C. intumescens, Trillium grandiflorum, Hepatica americana, Geranium maculatum, Uvularia sessilifolia, Mitella diphylla, Aster macrophyllus, Athyrium angustum, Rubus pubescens.
