Habitat:
Infrequent in sedge fen on the margin of a black spruce bog. Continuous Sphagnum carpets. Very buoyant wet peat; often in shallow water. Full sun. Small loose colonies, often associated with small shallow pools where the peat is especially unstable (recovering from past wallowing disturbance). Loose clumps.

Associates include Carex lasiocarpa, C. canescens, C. lacustris, C. utriculata, Eriophorum chamissonis, E. gracile, Drosera rotundifolia, Thelypteris palustris, Utricularia intermedia, U. minor, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Triadenum fraseri, Typha xglauca.
