Habitat: Occasional on a moderately steep, 40-foot, north-facing slope. Narrow strip of mesic hardwood forest dominated by Quercus rubra, Q. macrocarpa, and Populus tremuloides. Dense subcanopy of Ostrya virginiana. Silty-loam. Loose clumps.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex pensylvanica, C. pedunculata, C. deweyana, Oryzopsis asperifolia, Desmodium glutinosum, Osmorhiza claytonii, Cryptotaenia canadensis, Sanicula gregaria, S. marilandica, Solidago flexicaulis, Pyrola elliptica, Aster macrophyllus, Asarum canadense, Uvularia sessilifolia, U. grandiflora, Toxicodendron rydbergii.
