Locality:
United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Rolling to fairly rugged bedrock terrain along the Canadian border 20 miles north of Ely. Very local in Saturday Bay, Crooked Lake.

Habitat:
On a treeless bedrock islet. Occasional small, dense clumps in the upper wave-wash zone, on a gently-sloping, rounded, 0.1-acre, granitic rock that rises ~2-3 feet above lake level (which is down ~12 inches from the early season high mark). Along bedrock crevices in pockets of shallow detrital-organic soil and gravel with an organic cap. Full sun.

Associates include Deschampsia cespitosa, Fimbristylis autumnalis, Carex lasiocarpa, Juncus pelocarpus, Aster lanceolatus, Euthamia graminifolia, Eriocaulon aquaticum, Spiraea alba.
