United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Rolling to fairly rugged bedrock terrain along the Canadian border 20 miles north of Ely, in the northwestern portion of Friday Bay, Crooked Lake.
Frequent on small, low islets. In shallow lenses of coarse sand and gravel (often with detritus) over granitic bedrock. Level to sloping settings at the upper end of the wave-wash zone, ~2-4 feet above the water line (lake is down ~12-16 inches from early season high mark). Singles and loose colonies of small clumps, dozens total. Mostly in full sun.
