Frequent in moist, open sand on a large swimming beach, in areas that are less heavily trampled. Full sun. In clumps with sprawling stems.
Associates include Cyperus squarrosus, C. bipartitus, C. engelmannii, Eragrostis pectinacea, Panicum capillare, Chenopodium glaucum, Persicaria maculosa, Myosoton aquaticum, Bidens frondosa.
