Habitat:
Occasional in wet aspen forest on a subtle rise in a large wet meadow - willow swamp complex. Patchy canopy dominated by Populus tremuloides. Partial shade. Moist sand with a darker sandy-organic cap. Few-stemmed shrubs to ~7 feet tall.
Associated Species:
Additional associates include Calamagrostis canadensis, Phalaris arundinacea, Poa palustris, Carex lacustris, Pedicularis lanceolata, Rubus pubescens, Aster umbellatus, A. firmus, Cornus stolonifera, C. racemosa, Toxicodendron rydbergii. And with Carex pensylvanica, Viburnum lentago, Aster macrophyllus, and Quercus rubra on slightly higher ground nearby.
