Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Along the Beartrap River 3/4 mile south of Sunday Lake, in rolling to rather rugged bedrock terrain 18 miles north of Ely.

Habitat: Quite local in a small riparian meadow dominated by Calamagrostis canadensis. Full sun to partial shade of young Pinus banksiana growing on the steep slopes that closely flank the stream where it narrows to a series of small rapids. Rocky substrate. The semi-terrestrial setting appears to become inundated, albeit briefly, during high water events. Climbing into the adjacent 3- to 6-foot tall vegetation.
Associated Species: Associates include Galium asprellum, Athyrium angustum, Osmunda claytoniana, Eupatorium maculatum, Rubus strigosus, Acer spicatum, Corylus cornuta.
