Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Rolling to moderately rugged bedrock terrain 19 miles north of Ely, along a small drainage south of Saturday Bay, Crooked Lake.

Habitat: Locally common on the margin of an old beaver meadow. Narrow ecotonal zone between the Calamagrostis canadensis-dominated meadow and the adjacent low-lying forested upland. Full sun to partial shade of Picea mariana and Larix laricina. Dense patch of intertwined stems trailing over the ground. Loamy organic soil, often with rather thick moss carpets.
Associated Species: Associates include Equisetum sylvaticum, Dendrolycopodium dendroideum, Lysimachia terrestris, Triadenum fraseri, Lycopus uniflorus, Aster umbellatus, Vaccinium myrtilloides.
