Habitat:
Local in a narrow strip of degraded dry prairie where the right-of-way ditch meets a sandy old field, near an old farm site. Loose to rather dense patches. Deep sand with a silty cap. Full sun.

Associates include Poa pratensis, Bromus inermis, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Euphorbia cyparissias.
