Locality: United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Along the portage between Stuart and Fox Lakes, in rolling bedrock terrain 21 miles north-northwest of Ely.

Habitat: Old growth dry-mesic conifer woodland dominated by large Pinus banksiana and Picea mariana. Patchy canopy locally. Partial sun to full shade. Small but fairly dense patches here in feathermoss carpets (Pleurozium schreberi, Dicranum sp.) over rounded and gently sloping granitic outcrops.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Danthonia spicata, Oryzopsis pungens, Goodyera tesselata, Platanthera hookeri, Linnaea borealis, Clintonia borealis, Diphasiastrum complanatum.
