Habitat:
Several robust clumps (largest ones with 50+ fertile culms) on the level to gently-sloping and fairly broad bedrock shoreline, near the lone (primitive) campsite. Growing in the wave-wash zone, from the water line to ~3 feet above it. Shallow silty soil over granitic bedrock, and in wide crevices filled with detritus. Full sun.

Associates include Dichanthelium acuminatum, Poa palustris, Agrostis scabra, Euthamia graminifolia, Potentilla norvegica, Spiraea alba.
