United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Along the Stewart River south of White Feather Lake, in moderately rugged bedrock terrain 16 miles north-northwest of Ely.

Habitat:
Quite local on the margin of a small upland rise in a large peatland. Scattered loose clumps in the ecotone between the surrounding poor conifer swamp and the upland conifer woodland. Shaded below scattered Picea mariana, and rather dense Alnus incana and Salix pyrifolia. In Sphagnum carpets, on moist, low hummocks.

Additional associates include Carex disperma, C. lacustris, C. stricta, Glyceria striata, Rubus pubescens, Potentilla palustris, Dryopteris cristata.
