Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. On the shores of Basswood Lake in fairly rugged bedrock terrain ten miles north-northeast of Ely, within a couple hundred feet of the southwest shore of Jackfish Bay, Basswood Lake.

Habitat: Occasional along a small, intermittent stream. Shaded beneath a patchy canopy of Fraxinus nigra and Populus tremuloides, and a fairly dense, tall understory of Acer spicatum and scattered Alnus incana. Rather shallow loamy soil over granitic bedrock; in gently sloping moist settings within a few feet of the stream.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Ribes triste, Viola incognita, V. cucullata, Equisetum sylvaticum, Athyrium angustum, Maianthemum canadense, Carex gracillima, C. brunnescens.
