United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Along the Stewart River south of White Feather Lake, in moderately rugged bedrock terrain 16 miles north-northwest of Ely.

Quite local in a conifer woodland, on a small upland rise in a large peatland. Partial sun to fully shaded below mature Pinus banksiana and Picea mariana. In carpets of Pleurozium schreberi and Dicranum polysetum. A small, loose colony of ~25 shoots.
Additional associates include Trientalis borealis, Athyrium angustum, Gymnocarpium dryopteris, Spinulum annotinum, Chimaphila umbellata, Pyrola chlorantha, Goodyera tesselata, Monotropa uniflora, Epilobium angustifolium, Rubus strigosus.
