Locally abundant in a shallow prairie marsh bisected by a narrow gravel road. Forming dense patches. Moist, peaty loam and saturated peat. Some patches in shallow water. Full sun.
Associates include Glyceria grandis, Phalaris arundinacea, Carex lacustris, Typha xglauca, Persicaria amphibia, Sagittaria latifolia.
