Habitat:
Uncommon and local on the moderately steep upper portion of a 30- to 40-foot, north-facing slope. Mesic hardwood forest recovering from past grazing. Canopy of Tilia americana and Acer saccharum. Understory is mostly Ostrya virginiana. Sandy-loam. A small, loose colony here.
