Locality: United States, Minnesota, Todd, Rolling drumlin plain five miles north-northeast of Clarissa, six miles east-northeast of Eagle Bend, in an inter-drumlin peatland along County Road 22.

Habitat: Abundant, co-dominant with Betula pumila in a patterned rich shrub fen (that is somewhat degraded by a large ditch). Full sun to partially shaded by stunted Larix laricina. Buoyant, saturated peat. Patchy Sphagnum carpets. Forming dense patches of low, branching shrubs, mostly 24-30 inches tall.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex interior, C. lasiocarpa, C. echinata, C. chordorrhiza, C. livida, C. canescens, Eriophorum gracile, Potentilla palustris, Triadenum fraseri, Viola macloskeyi, Drosera rotundifolia, Equisetum fluviatile, Thelypteris palustris.
