Occasional to frequent in a patterned rich shrub fen (that is somewhat degraded by a large ditch) dominated by dense Betula pumila and Chamaedaphne calyculata. Full sun to partial shade of the shrubs and stunted Larix laricina. Buoyant saturated peat.
Additional associates include Carex interior, C. lasiocarpa, C. chordorrhiza, C. echinata, C. livida, C. canescens, Eriophorum gracile, Thelypteris palustris, Triadenum fraseri, Viola macloskeyi, Potentilla palustris, Drosera rotundifolia.
