Locality: United States, Minnesota, Douglas, Bliss State Aquatic Management Area. Near the northeastern shore of Lake Miltona in rolling sandy outwash 2.5 miles west-northwest of Miltona, six miles south of Parkers Prairie.

Habitat: Occasional to locally common in degraded ash swamp. Patchy canopy of large Fraxinus nigra. Interrupted tall understory of Fraxinus nigra and Rhamnus cathartica. Full shade to partial sun. Moist to quite wet, fairly shallow, mucky-organic layer over sand. Bluish-purple ray flowers. Most plants here have stems that resprouted after being cropped by deer earlier in the season.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Symphyotrichum firmum, S. lateriflorum, Equisetum arvense, Carex stricta, C. stipata, C. retrorsa, Phalaris arundinacea, Cornus stolonifera.
