Locality: United States, Minnesota, Todd, Burleene State Wildlife Management Area. Large peatland complex on level to gently rolling outwash plain 7.5 miles southwest of Clarissa, 11 miles west of Browerville.

Habitat: Uncommon in strings dominated by stunted Betula pumila and occasional Larix laricina. Full sun to partial shade. Deep, saturated, slightly buoyant peat. Maroon color on lower stem.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex echinata, C. lasiocarpa, Equisetum fluviatile, Thelypteris palustris, Typha xglauca, Smilacina trifolia, Lysimachia thyrsiflora, Potentilla palustris, Cornus stolonifera, Salix pedicellaris, S. candida.
