Habitat:
Common in a strip of hardwood swamp, in a broad ecotone between patterned rich peatland (sedge fen and tamarack swamp) and mesic hardwood forest on the nearby upland. Canopy of young Fraxinus nigra, with scattered Quercus macrocarpa. Shallow wet peat. Partial shade. Dense hummocky clumps.
