Habitat:
Frequent quite locally in wet aspen forest that forms a broad ecotone between a forested upland rise and the surrounding wet meadow. Partial shade to partial sun beneath an interrupted canopy of mature Populus tremuloides, and a patchy, tall understory of Populus tremuloides, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, and Salix discolor. Wet loamy-organic soil. Loose colony of multi-stemmed plants, many browsed by deer.
