United States, Minnesota, Otter Tail, Low upland island in an extensive wetland complex, on level to gently rolling sandy outwash 1.5 miles west of Wrightstown, seven miles west of Bertha.

Habitat:
Common to locally abundant in dry-mesic woodland. Canopy of Quercus macrocarpa and Q. ellipsoidalis, with scattered Populus tremuloides and Betula papyrifera. Patchy understory of Ostrya virginiana, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, and Corylus cornuta. Coarse sand with a loamy cap. Ray flowers light blue to lavender. Loose to dense patches, often co-dominant with Carex pensylvanica.

Additional associates include Rubus strigosus, Toxicodendron rydbergii, Diervilla lonicera, Aster lateriflorus, Osmorhiza claytonii, O. longistylis, Schizachne purpurascens, Bromus ciliatus.
