Habitat:
Common to locally abundant in dry-mesic woodland. Canopy of Quercus macrocarpa and Q. ellipsoidalis, with scattered Populus tremuloides and Betula papyrifera. Patchy understory of Ostrya virginiana, Fraxinus pennsylvanica, and Corylus cornuta. Coarse sand with a loamy cap. Ray flowers light blue to lavender. Loose to dense patches, often co-dominant with Carex pensylvanica.
