Locality: United States, Minnesota, Otter Tail, Eastern State Wildlife Management Area. Extensive wetland complex surrounding North and South Maple Lakes, on level to gently rolling sandy outwash four miles northeast of Parkers Prairie.

Habitat: Locally abundant in degraded wet meadow. Full sun. Moist to quite wet peat. Large, dense patches in the vicinity of a small and much overgrown channel that connects the two lakes. Plants typically ~7-9 feet tall. Stems maroon; sheaths +/- loose, leaves often shedding (or having already shed) on the lower half of many culms.
Associated Species: Associates include Thelypteris palustris, Campanula aparinoides, Impatiens capensis, Calamagrostis canadensis.
