Habitat:
Quite local in a black spruce bog. Patchy canopy locally, dominated by Picea mariana. Partial shade. In continuous moss carpet (primarily Sphagnum angustifolium). Deep, slightly buoyant, saturated peat. Loose patch with several dozen fertile culms.
