United States, Minnesota, Otter Tail, Eastern State Wildlife Management Area. On a large island in the extensive North and South Maple Lakes wetland complex, on level to gently rolling sandy outwash four miles northeast of Parkers Prairie.

Habitat:
Sporadic. Common very locally in small (~1/8-acre) vernal wetlands. Shaded below Fraxinus nigra, F. pennsylvanica, and Ulmus americana, as well as Populus tremuloides, Tilia americana, Quercus rubra, and Q. macrocarpa growing in the surrounding hardwood forest. Moist sandy-loam with a thick organic cap. Dense clumps. Loose to dense patches. Many culms with maroon bases.
