Locality:
United States, Minnesota, St. Louis, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness, Sundial Lake Primitive Management Area. Atop a gently-rolling bedrock ridge on the east side of White Feather Lake, 17 miles north-northwest of Ely.

Habitat:
In a quite extensive rock outcrop complex. Several robust clumps in shallow moist depressions in the granitic rock (migmatite). Growing amongst mats of Polytrichum juniperinum and Cladina spp. that cover the bare rock. Full sun to partial shade of young Pinus banksiana, regenerating from a major wildfire (in 1996).

Additional associates include Rubus strigosus, Aralia hispida, Vaccinium angustifolium, Danthonia spicata, Agrostis scabra, Maianthemum canadense, Fallopia cilinodis, Selaginella rupestris.
