Locality:
United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Moderately rugged bedrock terrain east of Snowbank Lake, 22 miles east-northeast of Ely, on the western end of Disappointment Lake, along the portage to Parent Lake.

Habitat:
Local. Shaded beneath a canopy of Betula papyrifera, Fraxinus nigra, and Abies balsamea. Understory includes Acer spicatum, Abies balsamea, and Ilex verticillata. Moist silty-organic soil, where the trail crosses a small creek, and sporadic in moist to mesic trail side settings in the general vicinity. Small clumps aggregated into small patches.

Additional associates include Carex intumescens, C. leptonervia, Maianthemum canadense, Athyrium angustum, Equisetum sylvaticum, Aralia nudicaulis, Aster macrophyllus.
