Locality: United States, Minnesota, Lake, Rolling to moderately rugged bedrock terrain south of the Fernberg Road, 14 miles east-northeast of Ely. Local on the south side of a small island in the central portion of Ojibway Lake.

Habitat: Small loose colony on the lakeshore. Setting varies from terrestrial to semi-terrestrial in a narrow shoreline zone between the lake and the base of dry, south-facing, greenstone outcrops. Shallow rocky silt and detritus over bedrock. Full sun to partial shade of Thuja occidentalis, Pinus banksiana, and Picea mariana. Few-stemmed shrubs, to ~4 feet tall. Red berries. Associates include Myrica gale, Alnus viridis, Vaccinium angustifolium, Carex interior, C. aurea, C. lasiocarpa.
