Very local in the bedrock-lined gorge. Dense patch on a narrow strip of land below east-facing anorthosite cliffs, in a gently sloping upland setting 2-4 feet above lake level. Trailing around boulders, amongst rather dense low shrubs (Chamaedaphne calyculata, Myrica gale, Spiraea alba). Sparse canopy of Pinus banksiana, P. strobus, and Abies balsamea. Most peduncles with a solitary strobilus, few with two.
Additional associates include Calamagrostis canadensis, Rosa acicularis, Cornus rugosa, Rubus pubescens, Maianthemum canadense.
