Locality:
United States, Minnesota, Lake, Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. Rolling to moderately rugged bedrock terrain east of Snowbank Lake, 26 miles east-northeast of Ely, between Ima, Alworth, Magnet, and Jordan Lakes.

Habitat:
Local on the shore of a 5-acre bog pond. Occasional along the boggy (poor fen) margin of the pond, mostly within ~15 yards of the water. Sphagnum carpets. Wet peat, mostly on hummocks raised 4-12 inches above the pond. Loose to rather dense, small patches. Full sun. Somewhat more abundant in areas more heavily altered by beavers.

Additional associates include Dryopteris cristata, Carex lasiocarpa, C. stricta, Spiraea alba, Chamaedaphne calyculata, Vaccinium oxycoccos, Ledum groenlandicum, Alnus incana.
