Habitat:
Infrequent on the lowest terrace of a large, multi-tiered sandbar. ~Level setting ~4-6 inches above the present water line, exposed by receding river levels. In a zone dominated by Eragrostis hypnoides and Lindernia dubia. Deep, coarse sand with very small cobbles (pea gravel size). Full sun. [Approaching var. anagallidea (Michaux) Cooperrider]

Additional associates include Cyperus squarrosus, C. odoratus, C. erythrorhizos, C. bipartitus, C. esculentus, Echinochloa muricata, Eragrostis pectinacea, E. frankii, Mollugo verticillata, Mimulus ringens, Amaranthus tuberculatus, Persicaria lapathifolia, Plantago major, Bidens cernua, and seedlings of Salix interior and Acer saccharinum.
