Habitat:
Uncommon on a gravel bar, within a few inches above the present water line. Moist, coarse sand amongst small, rounded cobbles, exposed in the past few weeks by receding river levels. Full sun.

Associates include Cyperus squarrosus, C. bipartitus, Panicum capillare, Eragrostis hypnoides, E. pectinacea, Poa annua, Amaranthus tuberculatus, Lindernia dubia, Ranunculus sceleratus, Myosoton aquaticum, Bidens cernua, Veronica americana, Salix interior.
