Locality: United States, Minnesota, Winona, Whitewater State Park. Along the lower reaches of Trout Run, in rugged forested terrain five miles north of St. Charles.

Habitat: Very local. Several quite robust clumps on the steep lower slope of a 300-foot northwest-facing bluff. Rich mesic hardwood forest dominated by mature Acer saccharum and Tilia americana. Understory includes Carpinus caroliniana and Ostrya virginiana. Rich, silty colluvium with dolomite stones. A few anthers still present, these ~3.3 millimeters long.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Dicentra cucullaria, Solidago flexicaulis, Asarum canadense, Hydrophyllum virginianum, Hepatica acutiloba, Adiantum pedatum, Mitella diphylla.
