United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Rugged bedrock terrain along the South Branch of the Root River 1.5 miles west of Lanesboro, in a relatively narrow zone between the river and the Root River State Trail (an old railroad grade).

Habitat:
Occasional to locally common, especially on a rather steep, west-facing slope. Full sun to partial shade of Acer negundo. Often forming patches. Large plants take the form of many-stemmed clumps. The lower portions of the stems are densely hairy. Bright yellow, 4-parted flowers. Orange sap. Silty soil.

Additional associates include Alliaria petiolata, Barbarea vulgaris, Heracleum lanatum, Silphium perfoliatum, Galium aparine, Osmorhiza longistylis, Urtica dioica, Thalictrum dasycarpum, Humulus lupulus, Phalaris arundinacea.
