Locality: United States, Minnesota, Winona, Whitewater State Wildlife Management Area. Rugged terrain in the lower Whitewater River valley, 3.5 miles southwest of Weaver.

Habitat: Occasional to frequent in oak barrens, on a gently-sloping terrace in a narrow valley between 300-foot bluffs. Full sun to partial shade of young to maturing Quercus velutina. Gentle to moderately steep, south to southwest aspects. Single stems and small clumps, in sparsely-vegetated / open sand. Deep, tan, fine, silty-sand.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Campanula rotundifolia, Lithospermum caroliniense, Monarda punctata, Lupinus perennis, Tephrosia virginiana, Polygala polygama, Euphorbia corollata, Selaginella rupestris, Talinum rugospermum, Sorghastrum nutans, Carex siccata.
