Locality: United States, Minnesota, Winona, Whitewater State Wildlife Management Area. Rugged terrain in the lower Whitewater River valley, 3.5 miles southwest of Weaver.

Habitat: Frequent to common in increasingly overgrown black oak barrens, on a gently-sloping terrace in a narrow valley between 300-foot bluffs. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus velutina, often in small prairie openings. Gentle to fairly steep, south to southwest aspects. Deep, tan, fine, silty sand.
Associated Species: Additional associates include Tephrosia virginiana, Euphorbia corollata, Helianthemum canadense, Polygala polygama, Scutellaria leonardii, Helianthus occidentalis, Campanula rotundifolia, Selaginella rupestris, Lupinus perennis, Rumex acetosella, Cyperus lupulinus, Carex siccata, Sorghastrum nutans.
