United States, Minnesota, Winona, Whitewater State Wildlife Management Area. Rugged terrain in the lower Whitewater River valley, 3.5 miles southwest of Weaver.

Habitat:
Infrequent and fairly local in black oak barrens, on a gently-sloping terrace in a narrow valley between 300-foot bluffs. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus velutina, often in small prairie openings. Gentle to moderately steep, southerly aspects. Scattered plants in deep, tan, fine, silty-sand. Purplish-pink flowers (or remnants thereof).

Additional associates include Carex siccata, Cyperus lupulinus, Monarda punctata, Tephrosia virginiana, Talinum rugospermum, Euphorbia corollata, Campanula rotundifolia, Lupinus perennis, Selaginella rupestris, Helianthemum canadense, Rumex acetosella.
