Habitat:
Infrequent and fairly local in black oak barrens, on a gently-sloping terrace in a narrow valley between 300-foot bluffs. Full sun to partial shade of Quercus velutina, often in small prairie openings. Gentle to moderately steep, southerly aspects. Scattered plants in deep, tan, fine, silty-sand. Purplish-pink flowers (or remnants thereof).
