Habitat:
Local along the base and lower slope of a very steep, 280-foot, north-facing bluff. Mesic hardwood forest dominated locally by Acer saccharum, Betula alleghaniensis, and Tilia americana. Shaded mesic setting. Silty soil with quite abundant, small, moss-covered dolomite rocks (~talus). Rather large, loose colony composed of small dense clumps and somewhat larger dense patches.

Additional associates include Cystopteris bulbifera, Thalictrum dioicum, Mitella diphylla, Solidago flexicaulis, Hepatica acutiloba, Smilacina racemosa, Asarum canadense, Actaea rubra, Parthenocissus inserta, Ribes cynosbati.
