Locality: United States, Minnesota, Fillmore, Rugged bedrock terrain along the South Branch of the Root River 1.5 miles west of Lanesboro, above the Root River State Trail.

Habitat: Infrequent and quite local on the mid-slope of an extremely steep, 220- to 240-foot, southwest-facing bluff. Scattered small, loose patches, in a small (1/2-acre) bluff prairie opening on a slope that is elsewhere overgrown with dense Juniperus virginiana and Rhamnus cathartica. Full sun to partial shade. Rocky silt (limestone/dolomite stones and small outcrops).
Associated Species: Additional associates include Carex abdita, Sorghastrum nutans, Schizachryrium scoparium, Silphium laciniatum, Arnoglossum plantagineum, Oxalis violacea, comandra umbellata, Lithospermum canescens, Amorpha canescens.
