Habitat:
Infrequent (male plants) on an extensive cobble bar. Rounded stones mostly 1-3 inches in diameter, forming a cap over coarse sand, moist to the surface. Level setting 3-6 inches above the water (exposed in past few weeks by receding river levels). Full sun.

Associates include Lipocarpha micrantha, Eleocharis intermedia, Cyperus squarrosus, C. diandrus, C. odoratus, C. strigosus, C. esculentus, Panicum capillare, P. philadelphicum, Poa annua, Eragrostis hypnoides, Digitaria sanguinalis, Chenopodium glaucum, Lindernia dubia, Verbena bracteata, Ludwigia palustris, Mollugo verticillata.
