Habitat:
Local on a broad river terrace below steep west-facing bluffs. Abundant in a small groundwater seepage meadow, surrounded by seepage alder and ash. Moderately buoyant, deep, wet, iron-stained muck with shallow water between the hummocks. Full sun.

Associates include Caltha palustris, Impatiens capensis, Platanthera huronensis, Stellaria longifolia, Chrysosplenium americanum, Galium trifidum, Saxifraga pennsylvanica, Aster puniceus, Carex comosa, C. hysteracina.
