Locality: United States, Minnesota, Pine, Banning State Park. Along the gorge of the Kettle River in rugged terrain 1.5 miles north-northeast of Sandstone, on the west side of the river, along the lower reaches of Hell's Gate rapids.

Habitat: Quite local. Small, loose patch on a broad, wet, sandstone ledge on the lower third of 120-foot high east-facing bluffs. Cool, wet, mossy, sheltered microsite maintained by groundwater seepage; shaded beneath a large overhanging cliff face.
Associated Species: Associates include Chrysosplenium iowense, Impatiens capensis, Cardamine pensylvanica, Rubus pubescens, Cystopteris fragilis.
