Habitat: rather dry hardwood swamp under canopy of Fraxinus nigra & Acer rubrum. Moist soil. Growing amongst rather dense stand of Calamagrostis canadensis. Associates include Polygonum sagittatum, Impatiens capensis, Calla palustris, Osmunda cinnamomea, Equisetum arvense, E. sylvaticum. Also occasional under Alnus incana around fringe of nearby tamarack swamp.
